Information Visualization 資料視覺化

無庸置疑的，這是一個資訊爆炸的時代。因此學習如何清楚的呈現我們對資料的了解，就成了一門新的學問，尤其是要呈現那種大而龐雜的資料的時候。一般我們熟悉的如長方圖、圓餅圖、顏色、線條，等等都是呈現資料的方法。

Information Visualization （資料視覺化）在討論的就是這件事，只是包含更廣範，諸如地圖、生物資訊、機械工程、電腦程式、城市動態...都可將之視覺化。它在乎的不只是呈現，更要讓閱讀者在短時間內理解圖中的資訊。

而如果用書寫blog當作例子，那麼思考如何呈現blog的內文就是一種資料視覺化過程。寫作者嘗試將腦中的資訊透過，文字、圖像、聲音、影片等方式傳遞。目的當然就是作者腦中資料的呈現，可是作者也必須思考，哪一種資料呈現法，最能完整呈現他本身想表達的主題。以遊記為例，選擇旅遊照片展出可能是最常被使用的方法。因為一張照片所能提供的資訊，往往勝過作者的賣力書寫。所謂的『一圖勝千文』就是這個道理。

簡而言之，呈現資料，又兼具易讀、易懂、美觀，就是資料視覺化的討論內容。
